Freelance Producer/Mixer John Alec, an accomplished Guitarist and Bassist, is the creative architect behind the commercial and artistic success of South Asia’s most popular rock band Junoon. He first went to Pakistan in 1997 to record Junoon’s third album Azadi which became an international multi-platinum hit. His talent as a Producer and expertise as a Mixer created the sound that propelled Junoon to international acclaim and that every new Pakistani and Indian band emulated. He continues to Produce for the band and has been performing with them since the departure of their bass player in 2003.
After studying music at The Purchase Conservatory in New York, John began his career touring internationally with Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter. While working on recordings with Edgar Winter in the early 80’s he discovered his passion for recording. As his career has evolved from those beginnings John has been associated with the careers of numerous artists and performers in varying capacities. Recent projects include a CD for the East Village Opera Company for Sony Records with Neil Dorfsman, The theme song for “The Magic Tent”, for International Children's Television to begin airing this summer in India, and a CD of Traditional Afghani Folk Music for independent release in the fall. John Alec is currently Producing a CD celebrating cross cultural tolerance and diversity with artists from the US, Canada, Afghanistan, Australia, Tibet, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan and India.
